Cathedral of Flame (Atnem and Jack) [Closed]

Atnem held his pistol tightly, his finger on the trigger. He crouched in the back room of Maggie's shop, by the doorway to the storefront. His fiery foe and its minion were just on the other side of the wall. He'd have to move fast and shoot straight to take them down before the city was burnt to the ground.
"Alright Atnem, it's up to you." He sighed deeply, and made his move.
No sign of the minion, but he could easily spot the demon, its firey heart glowing in its chest. He took aim and squeezed off a few shots, each missing by only inches. He stopped shooting, and his heart sunk to his stomach, the cold steel of a gun barrel pressed against the side of his head. The minion had spotted him.
"Haha, gotcha," she said, and pulled the trigger. Atnem fell to the ground.
Maggie casually strolled over and blew out Atnem's candle. "I win again."
"Man." Atnem sat up. "If they made water-bows I'd completely own you. Did you have to squirt me right in the ear?"
"Aww, sorry. Here, let me help." She licked her finger and stuck it in his ear.
"Dangit!" Atnem snatched at her, and missed. "I know where you sleep."
"Bwahaha, you'll never beat me." She holstered her watergun and went back to work.

Jack walked in the door to the shop. "Do you two ever get any work done?" He asked as he unbuckled his sword belt and threw it on the counter. "Maggie the blade doesn't release quick enough, It needs your magic touch." he smiled and put his hand through his hair. "and if you shine it I'll give ya a big fat kiss." he added to the end.

Jack looked at Atnem. "And for you sir, I have a proposition." he said with a sly smile. Almost so giddy he could hardly contain himself. "Who wants to go legend hunting?"

Maggie examined the sword and its sheath. "Looks like it's a little worn out." She grinned, "I bet if you didn't play with it so much, it would release quicker when you needed it to. You probably want it back as soon as possible, huh? I'll see what I can do, real quick." She disappeared into the back of the shop.

"Legend hunting?" Atnem was still trying to get the water and spit out of his ear. "No need to explain anything, Jack. I'm in." He pondered a bit. "Well, maybe you should explain a little."

Jack reached into the bag that he had on his back, and pulled out a stone tablet, Runes craved into it. "I found this on my last trip I took to the Nechrol, It took me several months to decipher it." He ran his hand against the runes and closed his eyes and murmured under his breath. Magic flickered from his hand and reacted with the stone tablet. the runes began to glow and floated off the tablet in a brilliant display of color. "They read: Ancient in stone are we, long forgot relics far below the cathedral ringed with fire. Be this a.... Sadly it stops there. So are you interested in another hunt with me?" His eyes flickered a dangerous look.

"Neat trick. I bet Maggie couldn't even translate these squiggles. Hey Maggie, c'mere!" Atnem shouted.
Maggie walked in, Jack's sword in hand. "Here ya go. Should be a quicker draw. Plus, it's super shiney!" She turned toward Atnem, and shouted in his face, "Why'd you yell at me?"
"We're going on an adventure! To a fiery cathedral. Wanna come?"
She slipped her goggles over her eyes and said, very seriously, "I'll get my squirt gun."

"May wanna take the shotgun too. I dont know what evil things be hiding in these runes." Jack looked distant for a moment. "But it is in vampire territory and i only have so much pull, so if we get into trouble and most likely we will. remember aim for the head and heart." Jack laughed. "What other sorts of Gadgets do you have for me today. As usual place anything on my tab, you know im good for it. I want big and shiny."

"Big and shiny? Hmm... I know!" Maggie scurried off to the back room, only to return moments later, fully geared up for the trip, and cradling something that looked like a chicken egg. "It's a Phoenix Egg. Well, not a real phoenix egg. It's much cooler than that. It might be handy, if we're gonna be fighting near fire. If you heat it up enough, it explodes, and shoots bolts of fire in every direction!" She carefully handed it to Jack. "I haven't been able to test it, though. Not even my flamethrower can get it hot enough."
"You've been trying to test it!? Not in your shop, I hope. Sheesh." Atnem took a step back. "So, are we all set, then?"

Jack looked at the egg. "Errrm I'm not even going to ask," he said as he grabbed his sword and put it on his belt. " I think i know where the ruins we are looking for are. A long time ago i lived in Claustralis, and rumored at the top of Fangbourn Mountain, hidden in the mists. Was a cathadral of old." Jack pulled out a scroll. "I looked into it in my research."

He started reading from the scroll. "In 1567, in the year of our lord Marcus, darkness came to the mountain, and they began to worship it. after several years. the darkness had disappeared and its followers were found in a cathedral that burned continuously their tortured screams its said can still be heard."

Jack rolled up the scroll. "Its Just a fable that an old man once told me over a warming fire, and several pints of mead. But whats strange is on clear nights if you look towards the mountain, sometimes you can see a glowing in the distance."

"So, what are we up against? Tortured cultists, undying flames... and I wouldn't want to underestimate anything known as 'darkness'. What are you hoping to find?" Atnem asked.
Maggie interrupted, "I hope we can help the people, trapped there by their own misguided faith. Even through their torture, though, people like that don't normally react well when told their beliefs are wrong. It may be too late for them. But, yeah, what are we looking for? I want to find whatever is causing the fire. I may be able to use it for something."

Jack shrugged "Honestly i dont know. Im sure its something interesting. Leon's coming with us too, I've sent him ahead to scout the Political air of Claustralis. Make sure you humans are still welcome." He paused for a moment. "As im sure we'll run into enough trouble. That rune was pretty ominous. Sounded something of a warning."

Jack walked around the room a bit. "Say, Maggie. Do you have any of those bottled north winds left? If so i wanna buy a stack. I think they'll come in handy."
