The Wrong Side [Atnem-Closed]
It was a nice day in Lanatha. A cool breeze blew through the warm air, keeping the fluffy white clouds aloft on their journey across the sky. People crowded the streets, hurrying to do something or another. One man, walking slowly against the rush, broke the flow of traffic, obviously frustrating the distracted pedestrians nearly bumping into him.
"Outta the way, moron!" Someone shouted.
The slow man took a drag off his cigarette, "Nice to meet you, too," and flicked it to the ground. He changed his path, broke out of the crowd, and sat on the ground outside the door of a small shop, Maggie's Machinery.
"What a boring place," he thought out loud, shooting a cloud out of the sky with his fingers.
A bell jingled as a girl with goggles on her forehead peeked out of the shop's doorway. "You can come in, you know."
"Oh, hey Mags. Slow day?" He asked, still sitting on the ground.
"Yeah. Hardly any customers today. Why do you ask?"
"Your sign," he pointed at it "says closed."
"Ahh crap!" She slapped her forehead with her good hand "Why haven't I automated that thing yet?"
"Beats me." He began to stand, "That's the third time this month." A gust of wind blew a sheet of paper right into his face. "Whoa, hey. Hello. What's this?" An interested grin grew on his face as he read the paper. "Hmm, I could go for that." He hurried inside. "Hey, Maggie, what do you think of this?"

The poster featured a sketch of a snarling man who looked pretty rough.
"Geez, Atnem, bounty hunting? I dunno about that." Maggie was skeptical.
"Come on, Mags. It'll be an adventure. And we'll get plenty of cash to make up for the days your shop's closed. You've got stuff we can use to catch the guy, haven't you?"
"Ooh, yeah." She looked excited, now. "I haven't had a reason to use my net gun yet. But, just how are we supposed to find this scumbag, anyway?"
"Good question. I guess he could be anywhere." He pondered a moment. "We could start in the Mage's region," he suggested, apprehensively.
"Ooh, the slums." Maggie cringed. "We'll need disguises, so we can blend in. They won't appreciate us being in their territory. I know I've got a pointy hat somewhere."

Re: The Wrong Side [Atnem-Closed]
Atnem and Maggie moved quickly through the dark alleys of Lanatha, doubling back several times, in case they were being followed. It would be unfortunate for anyone from either side to see them crossing the border. They stopped and crouched on an abandoned old stoop to dig through Maggie's bottomless bag.
Atnem swapped his bow for a robe, cloak, and staff. Maggie hid her gadgets in her robe, and her goggles under a pointed hat.
"Bleh. These robes make me look fat," she complained.
"Let me help. I cast a level 8 Minimize spell on your butt. Critical hit! Now you have no ass, again," Atnem joked.
"Hey! Don't mess with me, I'm the mightiest sorcerer of the lands." Maggie shot him a glare.
"Cast a Silence spell on yourself before you get us caught." Atnem stood back up. "Hop on your broomstick and come on. We've got business to take care of."
Now near the border, and with no sign of anyone having been in the area for a long time, the wizardly duo relaxed, still cracking jokes. "Yer a wizard, Maggie." "I can't be a wizard, I'm just... Maggie!" Maggie stopped a few steps back to adjust her disguise. Atnem kept walking, when he was suddenly hit by a huge pressure. It pulled him to his knees and made it hard to breathe. "Maggie? What's going on?"
"Hmm?" She looked up from her adjusting. "Oh! We made it! There's a filter thingy between the inner city and the outer magic district that keeps magic from tainting the city's technology. But on the other side there's magic everywhere. It'll take some getting used to." She braced herself and stepped across. "Oof. Don't fight it. Just accept it, and it'll be much nicer to you. Maybe we'll get magic powers or something."
Atnem struggled to his feet and breathed deeply, leaning on his staff. "Right. Shall we continue, then?"
