What will be the last Final Fantasy?

I agree with Lisa. As long as FF continues to make a profit, they'll keep making it. It's Square-Enix's flagship game, and it's the 4th biggest selling franchise of all time.

I can't see it stopping in the foreseeable future.

Square enix will probably stop with the actual numbered games or only release one numbered for every 5 spin off games for example the FF7 franchise is growing in popularity as they release more spin offs etc.

Which in turn brings people back to wanting to buy the other parts of the series so they can fill themselves in on the complete story of what is actually happening/has happened.

Also they will probably end up making more films like AC but just for the other games. One that I would like to see is a FFX film though.

Well thats just my view on the future of final fantasy.

I wouldnt be suprised if they did make more feature length films based on the games and even though I havent played it I would love to see a FF8 one produced so I could gain atleast some knowledge as to what happened in FF8

I have to agree, again, the more they earn the more they'll make, thus earning more, it'll be awhile before we get bored in any Final Fantasies let's be honest.
I personally don't mind, the more games that come out the more I get to play xD
It would be a bit odd if they just stopped suddenly when the FF's are making so much money for the company.

Ewww. More movies? SE are NOT brilliant moviemakers. Stick to making games. Movies should not become a regular project :/

I really think that they wont stop making games unless some act of god happens. They are company who knows what they are doing and knows exactly what we(the consumer) want. I would have to agree, that I think another movie could work. TBH even another FFVII movie would work, they left a few things open that they could explore. But I think a FFVIII, or FFX movie would be cool also.

In all likelihood it won't ever end; as many have said; as long as it stay popular and sells.

Final Fantasy is a unique cult phenom that really has no end in sight. Basically since X and X-2 are the only FF that are actually squeals of one another, FF is unique in the sense that the next game can always have nothing to do with the others and still make sense.

basically, it is true everything with a beginning has an end, but I would argue this; each FF games IS a new beginning and a new end in itself. Since it isn't a linear series, it begins anew with each new game, and each of those beginnings have an end. So basically instead of this being a single entity, it is a multitude of many small stand alone parts that make up a universe; each distinct from one another. This will be the key that let's it go on for as long as it has a fan base.

And I would add this. My first Final Fantasy game was the original on the 8 bit Nintendo. I was nine. While posting elsewhere I noticed someone else say that there first experience was also when they were 9, but it was FF IX.

I make that point because of this; this person and I are Separated by what, 14 years, and we are both into the same thing. I've seen these games change a lot, and i still love each new one, and the same goes for fans that joined in at anytime. Basically what I mean is that the constant new influx of fans means this series has already proven it could stand the test of time.

I also feel that there will be no end to this. Though if game systems keep getting more and more expensive then i fear i may be lost in the past....

I agree. Just like in the other thread for "Are you satisfied with SE?" I posted that the franchise FF makes more money then any game. There for SE will not now or ever stop making FF's until there is no more money coming from the consumer.
