3D Revolution

Post by Mari Bryn on Tue Mar 16, 2010 11:57 pm

A while back 3D movies were a gimic, with the nasty cardboard and cellophane glasses, and cheap effects. But with a new rash of 3d movies like Avatar, Alice in Wonderland, How to Train a Dragon, etc. Permeating the market in this new format called Real D, 3d has become a viable format for semi-serious movies.

Personally I've seen Avatar and Alice in Wonderland in this new Real D 3d, and I loved it. The 3d brought the scenery of both of these movies to life, making them so much more immersive than they would have been in plain old 2d. I will admit though some of the faster scenes made me a little motion sick, I quickly got over it. It has been years since I had that aw inspiring moment of seing that first little preview in 3d and wanting to reach out and grab it.

But what do you think about this new influx of 3d? Is it just a fad that will soon fade out or is Real D here to stay?

I think it's here to stay. Samsung has already created a new line of 3D tv and they are out on the market NOW. It's insane. And I completely agree with you. The 3D in those films is indescribable. So realistic. Although I think it's interesting, apparantly James Cameron will not release Avatar in 3D on DVD until "technology catches up". So...he obviously thinks it's going somewehre....

personally i don't really like this new 3D of all movies, i went to see Avatar in 3D, and just wasn't that impressed, yes the movie was good, but i don't really remember a moment in which i wanted to reach out and Grab anything during the film, i was just like "hmmmm, nice graphics" throughout the most part of the film.

Avatar gave 3D a brand new look and now it has created a huge difference in movies. But they shouldn’t make cheap 3D movies like "My Soul to Take", "Clash of the Titans". Those were the worst 3D movie that i have ever seen.

Yeah with movies like "The Last Airbender," and My soul to take they actually added the 3d elements in after filming. Which makes it look gimmicky and frankly, crappy. It seems to only work when the Movie is made with the aim of making it 3d instead of treating the 3d as an afterthought.
